The Tar River Mission Clinic is a non-profit, faith-based outreach of local volunteer physicians, physician assistants, nurses, clergy and non-medical individuals focused on providing free medical care to low income, uninsured adults with chronic disease conditions that can be managed in a "primary-care" oriented practice setting.
We focus exclusively on chronic disease care. The most common conditions we see patients for include diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, COPD, asthma and thyroid conditions that respond to medication management. We do not offer general physical exams, acute care, dental care or mental health care. For patients with chronic conditions that can be managed in the setting we offer, we work to ensure all needed routine laboratory and radiology testing is completed, all needed prescription medications are filled and health-related education is provided.
All prospective patients are screened for eligibility and must be willing to provide the clinic reasonable documentation to support the low income status of their household and their uninsured status. We serve residents of Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson counties. Our main clinic is held Thursday nights starting at 5:00 p.m. We also hold a smaller clinic most Tuesday nights starting at 5:00 p.m. We work by appointment only and do not take "walk-ins".
Our Prescription Assistance Program is available not only to clinic patients, but non-clinic patients as well. We work primarily through pharmaceutical companies' programs to acquire needed medications.
We are members of the National Association of Free Clinics, North Carolina Association of Free Clinics and the North Carolina Center for Non-Profits. We also have our Charitable Solicitation License issued by the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State. Contact us for more information.
